ダニエル・ヴァイマン　Daniel Vaiman

　1978年ラトビアのリガ生まれ。幼少より音楽に親しみ、母のディーナ・ヨッフェより最初のピアノの手ほどきを受ける。4歳よりリガのダルツィンス特別音楽学校にて学び始める。一家でモスクワに移り住んだ後、わずか6歳でグネーシン特別音楽学校に入学。1989年からは一家で移ったイスラエルにてピアノの研鑽を続ける。1994年、イギリスへ渡り、パーセル音楽院に全額給付奨学生として入学。続いて1996～2000年、全額奨学生として英国王立音楽院に学ぶ。

　2001-2003年、カールスルーエ音楽大学（ドイツ）にてカレ・ランダルのもと学び、修士課程修了。続いて、チューリッヒ芸術大学修士課程にてオメロ・フランセシュのもと研鑽を積み、演奏と教育の両方で修士号を獲得。

　ジュニア・ジーナ・バッカウアー国際ピアノコンクール（アメリカ、ソルトレイクシティ）、ニューポートピアノコンクー ル（イギリス）、ポントワーズ国際ピアノコンクール（フランス）、“エンニオ・ポリーノ”ピアノコンクール（イタリア）など多くのコンクールで、最高位など多くの受賞。ラインガウ音楽祭（ドイツ）、グッビオ音楽祭（イタリア）、ゲント・ショパン音楽祭（ベルギー）、「アンデの水車小屋」音楽祭（フランス）、クライバーン音楽学校マスタークラス（テキサス）、サミット音楽祭（ニューヨーク）、ナイアガラ国際音楽祭（カナダ）、ショパン音楽祭（ポーランド、アントニン）、オーヴェル・シュル・オワーズ音楽祭（フランス）、横浜市招待国際ピアノ演奏会など、多くの国際音楽祭に招かれ、セント・ジェームズ宮殿におけるチャールズ王太子出席のコンサートでも演奏。イスラエル、エストニア、韓国などのラジオでリサイタル生放送も多く、またイスラエル・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団、BBCウェールズ・ナショナル管弦楽団、ロンドン・ソロイスツ室内管弦楽団、セント・マーティン・アカデミー管弦楽団、カメラータ・チューリッヒ、モラヴィア交響楽団など多くとソリストとして共演している。2011年9月、ウィーンのモーツァルトハウスにて、東日本大震災復興支援チャリティーコンサートに出演した。

　CDは2005年にDaniel Vaiman Plays Liszt, Ravel, Prokofiev、2010年にカールスルーエ・ヴェルテザールで収録の「くるみ割り人形」がある。2009年より、ツーク市音楽学校にて教鞭をとっている。

アイルランドに生まれスコットランドで育つ。４人兄弟の末っ子で、兄弟は全員弦楽器を演奏するため、子供からヴィオラを弾くことを勧められ、ヴィオラ奏者としてのキャリアが始まった。  ロンドン王立音楽院に学び、フレドリック・リドルに師事。バロックから現代まで幅広いレパートリーをこなすヴィオラ奏者としてキャリアをスタートさせる。１９８３年、ピエール・ブーレーズの招きで、アンサンブル・アンテルコンタンポラン（パリ）のメンバーとなり、ブーレーズ指揮の協奏曲を含む多くのソロ作品、室内楽を、演奏ツアーや国際的な音楽祭で演奏する。９０年にはアルディッティ弦楽四重奏団に参加し、リゲティ、クルターグ、ベリオ、クセナキス、ケージ、フェルドマン、シュトックハウゼン等、現代を代表する作曲家たちの作品の初演を担当する。  ９８年よりソロ活動に専念するためクァルテットを離れる。ソリストとして、ヘンツェ、リゲティ、シュニトケ、ベンジャミンなど多くの作曲家の作品を初演。最近では、ブリュッセルやウィーン、パリでのリサイタルを行い、またタベア・ツィマーマンとの共演によるエトヴェシュのヴィオラ・デュオの世界初演や、キム・カシュカシアンとのデュオ・コンサート・シリーズ等がドイツで放送された。ヴィオラ・ダモーレによる新しい音楽にも積極的に取り組んでいる。パリを拠点に、ソロ、室内楽、オーケストラとの共演でヨーロッパ、アメリカ、日本で演奏。ＣＤも多数リリース。２０１２年はヴィオラスペース２０１２vol.21 第２回東京国際ヴィオラコンクールの審査委員を務める。

Garth Knox

Garth Knox was born in Ireland and grew up in Scotland. Being the youngest of four children who all played string instruments, he was encouraged to take up the viola, and he quickly decided to make this his career. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London with Fredrick Riddle, where he won several prizes for viola and for chamber music. Thereafter he played with most of the leading groups in London in a mixture of all repertoires, from baroque to contemporary music.
In 1983 he was invited by Pierre Boulez to become a member of the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris, where he had the chance to do much solo playing (including concertos directed by Pierre Boulez) and chamber music, touring widely and playing in international festivals.
In 1990 Garth Knox joined the Arditti String Quartet, playing in all the major concert halls of the world, working closely with and giving first performances of pieces by most of today's leading composers including Ligeti, Kurtag, Berio, Xenakis, Lachenmann, Cage, Feldman and Stockhausen (the famous "Helicopter Quartet").
Since leaving the quartet in 1998, Garth Knox has given premieres by Henze (the Viola Sonata is dedicated to him), Ligeti, Schnittke, Ferneyhough, James Dillon, George Benjamin and many others. He also collaborates regularly in theatre and dance projects and has written and performed shows for children and young audiences.
Improvisation is also an important part of his musical activity, and he has performed with George Lewis, Steve Lacy, Joel Léandre, Dominique Pifarély, Bruno Chevillon, Benat Achiary, Scanner and many others. He appears on the Frode Haltli CD Passing Images. In the past decade he has begun to write his own music, and is much in demand for theatre, dance and film scores as well as concert pieces and instrumental works.
Garth Knox has recently begun to explore the possibilities of the viola d'’amore in new music, with and without electronics, and is in the process of creating a new repertoire for this instrument. His CD D'Amore (EMI New Series 1925) features old and new music for the viola d'amore.
Garth Knox now lives in Paris playing recitals, concertos and chamber music concerts all over Europe, the USA and Japan. His solo CD with works from Ligeti, Dusapin, Berio, Kurtág and others (MO 782082) won the coveted Deutsche Schallplaten Preis in Germany.

Gottlieb Wallisch, piano

Gottlieb Wallisch is one of the fastest rising representatives of the younger generation of Austrian artists; Virtuosity and sovereign individuality are the hallmarks of his playing.

Born to a Viennese family of musicians, Gottlieb Wallisch was admitted to the Vienna University for Music and Performing Arts at the age of six years, and later graduated with distinction from the class of Heinz Medjimorec. He has participated in master classes given by Oleg Maisenberg and Dmitrij Bashkirov, and studied with Pascal Devoyon in Berlin and with Jacques Rouvier in Paris. Gottlieb Wallisch is a prize winner of several international piano competitions, amongst which is the 1st Prize and the „Grand Prix Ivo Pogorelich“ at The Stravinsky Awards (USA). He was also a finalist both at the 1999 Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels and at the XXI. Concours Clara Haskil in Vevey in 2005.
 

Gottlieb Wallisch has performed with leading orchestras including the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Salzburg, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, under conductors like Giuseppe Sinopoli, Dennis Russell Davies, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Louis Langrée, Sir Neville Marriner, Christopher Hogwood, Philippe Entremont, Kirill Petrenko, Lawrence Foster and Walter Weller. Numerous concert tours have taken him to the USA (Carnegie Hall, Washington DC, Krannert Center West Palm Beach), Great Britain (Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall), Japan, Hong Kong, South America, the Middle East, Africa, and many European countries, including Spain, Germany and Switzerland.
 

In the season of 2001/02 he participated in the international cycle "Rising Stars", and gave solo recitals in the largest European capitals as well as in the USA (Musikverein Vienna, Konserthus Stockholm, Societé Philharmonique in Brussels, the Athens Concert Hall, Wigmore Hall, London and the Carnegie Hall, New York).
 

He has made appearances at renowned festivals and concert halls, for example the Lucerne  Festival, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Beethovenfest Bonn, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Tonhalle Zürich,Festival de Wallonie, Singapore Arts Festival. In the summer of 2002, Gottlieb Wallisch gave his much-acclaimed debut at the Salzburg Festival. Recent seasons have seen him performing at the Musikhalle Hamburg, the Kölner Philharmonie, “De Doelen” Rotterdam, the Budapest Spring Festival, the December Nights in Moscow and his China-debut with the Camerata Salzburg in Beijing and Guangzhou. In the Mozart anniversary year 2006 and the Haydn anniversary year 2009 he gave a cycle of concerts in the Musikverein Vienna dedicated to the works of these composers.

As a respected artist of the Viennese piano tradition he has recently signed to the British  recording company LINN records. After his debut CD with this label, “Mozart in Vienna”, a new Mozart-album will be released in mid-2012.
 

Gottlieb Wallisch is founder and artistic co-director of the "Austro-Armenian Music Festival", held annually in Yerevan. In 2010 he was appointed professor for piano at the Haute École de Musique de Gèneve.
