Jörg Demus visit to Japan canceled

 

 

We respectfully inform you that Pianist Jörg Demus visit to Japan scheduled for May - June has cancelled because he is under medical treatment after an operation on his back.  Mr. Demus had the operation in April, and the postoperative progress is still slow.  Accordingly, doctors finally made a decision that Mr. Demus would not be able to be discharged yet.

 

Mr. Demus just visited Japan this March immediately after the earthquake.  He was in the middle of intense oppositions to visiting Japan, but he did not cancel any concerts and gave outstanding performances.  The operation took place in Vienna at the beginning of April, right after Mr. Demus returned to Austria.

 

While he was under the treatment, Mr. Demus’s strong determination to come to Japan never wavered.  He delayed the date to arrive in Japan and kept trying to prepare for the departure.

 

He is going to be 83 years old this December, and it is the 50^th anniversary year since he debuted in Japan.

 

It is our deepest regret that this cancellation would trouble all the people concerned.
