Dietmar Kueblboeck / TromboneDietmar Küblböck was born on June 8, 1963 in Linz, and began his study of the trombone in 1977 under his father, Horst Küblböck, at the Vienna Conservatory. It was a mere four years later when he received his first engagement in the philharmonic orchestra in the city of Graz. After only one season in Graz he was hired as first trombonist with the Vienna Symphony in 1982. In the midst of a successful 17 year career with that orchestra, he submitted himself to a new challenge by auditioning for the vacant position of first trombonist with the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. After winning this audition in a most convincing manner, he took up his new position with the opera orchestra on February 1, 1999. Dietmar Küblböck is an active soloist and chamber musician in addition to his orchestral duties. He has appeared as soloist in Vienna, New York, St. Petersburg, Odessa and Taipei, and performs with such prominent ensembles as the Concentus Musicus, Clemencic Consort, Ensemble Kontrapunkte, Ensemble of the 20th Century, Ensemble Modern, and the Vienna Trombone Quartet, playing contemporary chamber music as well as baroque and renaissance music on period instruments. For years Dietmar Küblböck has also been active as a trombone instructor, from 1989-1992 in the pedagogy department of the College of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and from 1997-2002 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. Beginning in July of 2002, he will assume the position of Professor of Trombone at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. |

Thomas Joebstl / HornThomas Joebstl was born in Wolfsberg (Carinthia) on January 5, 1978, and received his earliest musical training beginning at the age of five, receiving instruction on recorder from his father, Franz Jöbstl. Three years later he began study of the horn under Franz Gönitzer at the music school in Wolfsberg, and continued his studies from 1992 on at Vienna’s College of Music under Roland Berger, long time member of our orchestra. In 1997, Jöbstl not only completed his education at the Music high school, but received his first professional engagement, becoming first horn with the Orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper at the age of 19. He experienced three further milestones in his career in the year 2000, completing his musical studies with the title "Magister atrium”, becoming the assistant to Roland Berger, and in December performing a successful audition for the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, where he assumed the position of second horn on March 1, 2001. As the study of chamber music is of special importance during the schooling and professional life for every instrumentalist, so also did Thomas Jöbstl soon become closely involved with this most essential part of our musical tradition. In addition to being a regular member of the "Wiener Virtuosen”, he belongs to the Vienna Horn Ensemble and the "Viennahorns”, two formations which are dedicated to the contemporary cultivation of the Viennese horn. Since 2004 he has been the member of Vienna Philharmonic. |
